On Saturday, September 19, the Lake Charles Event Center will once again fill with the sound of drums, the smell of kitchens from five continents, and the color of national dress from around the world. The International Culture Festival, presented by the International Club of Southwest Louisiana, opens its doors at 10 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
Looking back at last year
The 2025 festival was the proof that Southwest Louisiana was ready for something like this. Thousands of people came through the Event Center over a single day, and what they found was not a polite exhibition of foreign customs but a room full of neighbors — Venezuelan, Nigerian, Filipino, Mexican, Lebanese, Vietnamese, Haitian, and many more — cooking, performing, and telling their own stories in their own words.
What organizers heard most often afterward was some version of the same thing: I had no idea this many cultures were living here. That reaction became the mandate for 2026. The festival was never meant to be a one-day novelty. It was meant to become the day Southwest Louisiana looks at itself honestly and likes what it sees.
What to expect on September 19
This year's program is bigger, longer, and mapped out hour by hour so families can plan their day instead of wandering and hoping. Fourteen scheduled events run across six zones inside the Event Center.
The Parade of Nations opens the day. At 10:30 a.m., flags and national costumes process onto the main stage for the opening ceremony, followed at 11 a.m. by an interfaith blessing led with community partners — a shared moment before the celebration takes off.
Global food, all day. The Global Food Court opens with the doors at 10 a.m. and does not stop. Kitchens representing Venezuela, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, West Africa, and Asia will be serving everything from slow-simmered stews to grilled street food and pastries. At 5 p.m., a featured vendor chef takes the floor for a live culinary demonstration, walking the audience through a signature dish from prep to plate.
Performance from noon to nightfall. The World Music Showcase runs at 11:30 a.m., traditional dance troupes take the Cultural Pavilion at 12:30 p.m., and a global fashion and traditional dress walk fills the main stage at 4 p.m. The Drum and Rhythm Finale at 5:30 p.m. is built to get the whole arena on its feet.
Two contests, $2,000 in prizes. The National Costume Contest at 1:30 p.m. puts traditional dress before a panel of judges, scored on authenticity, craftsmanship, and presentation. The A Capella Singing Contest follows at 3 p.m., with soloists and groups performing unaccompanied. Winners are announced at the closing ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
Room for the kids. The Family Zone in the North Hall hosts a children's cultural craft workshop from 2:30 p.m., so younger festival-goers have something to make and take home while the rest of the family explores.
Alongside all of it, the Cultural Exhibit Hall stays open the full day with country booths, artisan work, traditional dress displays, and community organizations sharing the heritage they carry.
